Upper arm lipo

Upper arm triceps laxity or “Bingo Wings” as they are commonly called is something, which can creep up on us and, despite intense exercise, will not respond to muscle tightening. The problem lies with the skin becoming lax as we age and also with the deposition of fat in the gravity dependant areas. This is particularly resistant to diet or exercise. Fortunately, there are treatments, which can specifically address this issue.

BodyTite (Invasix) is Radio Frequency Assisted Liposuction and is the platform we use to treat specific areas of fat deposition and skin laxity. The important difference with this technology is that it adds skin tightening to liposuction. So there’s much less risk of loose skin remaining after the fat has been removed.

The bodytite process

After a thorough consultation at least 2 weeks prior to the procedure, photos are taken, consent is signed, and measurements made. The areas to be treated are then marked with a patient felt pen. The whole process is carried out in a theatre environment and local anaesthesia is used. There’s no need for sedation.

Once you have been marked, skin prepped and draped, a small incision is made under local anaesthetic and fluid containing more local anaesthetic is infused gently into you upper arms. This makes the area to be treated completely numb. The BodyTite cannula is then inserted and the fat and skin are gently heated. This has the dual effect of melting the fat and also tightening the skin.
After this, the liposuction is carried out and the fat causing the Bingo Wings is removed. via a liposuction cannula.
At the end of the procedure, which takes about 2 hours in total, the tiny wounds are dressed with steri strips and a supportive post lipo garment is put on. This should be worn for about 6 weeks, even if only in the evenings and at night for the best results.

Is bodytite safe?

As with any surgical procedure, there are short term risks of bruising and longer term risks of burns, infection and nerve injury. With care, experience, prophylactic antibiotics and methodical aseptic technique, these risks are minimal.

After care for Bodytite

The ports in the skin through which the liposuction procedure is carried out are very tiny (about 3mm) and don’t require sutures. Micropore tape is applied after the procedure to keep the wounds closed (and these should have closed within 24 hours). Dressings are applied and Lipo compression garments are provided. These garments aid the contouring process, and should be worn as much as possible over the first two weeks, and then at night until 6 weeks after the procedure. There will be some discomfort as the local anaesthetic wears off, it will feel as though the area has had a very serious exercise workout, and this will ease over a few days. If needed, paracetamol can be taken, but not ibuprofen. There may be some residual numbness in the area which lasts for a few weeks. A prophylactic dose of antibiotics will be given, and should be continued until the course is completed.
During the few hours immediately after the procedure, there will be loss of fluid through the small ports, this is perfectly natural, as part of the bodytite process requires that fluid containing local anaesthetic is injected into the sub-dermal area. Some of this is removed with the liposuction, but the remainder leaves through the ports or is processed by the body.
You should avoid strenuous exercise for the two weeks following the procedure, but should take care to keep active.
There is an immediate loss of fat volume following the procedure. However as this process requires the body to recover from the heating to the skin by laying down of collagen, tightening will continue and the full effects of the treatment will not be seen until 4-6 months after the procedure.
At follow up, we will treat any uneven contours with BodyFx, (the non invasive fat removal and RF skin tightening device).
